TCM's History
Home

Tombigbee Country is now in its tenth year of publication and seems to
have captured the fancy of its thousands of monthly readers. It is growing
by leaps and bounds as the word spreads and more and more people
discover it and become members of the TCM family.

Discover Tombigbee Country Magazine
The Tombigbee River Area was discovered by the Chickasaws, Choctaws
and Upper Creeks, then DeSoto re-discovered in in the 1500s and then a
bunch of canny Scotch from S. Carolina discovered it in the early 1800s and
now we invite YOU to discover it today. Everything you read in TCM is true!
Whether it is or not! We glory in our past, those were the good old days,
whether they were or not! We are proud of the South and feel sorry for people
who have been forced to live elsewhere, whether they were or not! Tombigbee
Country is just a simple country magazine that is secure enough to make fun
of ourselves and our way of life.

Our Writers

TCM has a huge staff of writers— OUR READERS! Outstanding area historians
and authors regularly contribute articles to the magazine, however, a major
part of each issue is submitted by its readers recalling their memories of particular
times and places in the Tombigbee area. Most of these people have never had
their writings published before and their delightful stories add greatly to the appeal
of the magazine.

The Goals of TCM
Our goal is to produce a journal of our past that is just plain fun to read, and emphasis
is placed on stories that make the reader fell good and proud of our heritage. Ever
since we began publishing TCM the response to the magazine has been terrific.
Thousands now read the magazine monthly and whereas most are from the Tombigbee
River area of Mississippi and Alabama, the magazine is mailed all over the nation and to
several foreign countries. Subscribers are of diverse education levels, from all economic
classes and of all ages from young to very old. The magazine is making a great contribution
in preserving the history of this area, building pride among the people of this area and
preserving a way of life that is typical rural southern. TCM attempts to accomplish these
goals while at the same time being entertaining and fun to read. The only criteria for inclusion
in TCM is that the article be interesting.
